3 rules to set yourself apart from people in business!

3 simple rules to set yourself apart from most people in business!

Here are a few rules if you follow, you will impress people. You may laugh, because they seem ridiculously simple, but the truth is you will set yourself apart from the crowd just by doing these little things. WHY? Because MOST people DON’T do them.

1 - Be on time

This applies to both men and women, although women have a little more of an excuse because it takes more time to get ready in the am (Sorry ladies you just get a little less sleep L).  Being on time whether to work or personal engagements shows respect and sets the tone for the day or event.  I could say more, but do I really need to?

2 - Return calls, texts and emails

We are in the digital age and whether its texting, emailing of voice messages, we all have more ways to communicate with one another than we ever have had before. Maybe all these ways are part of the problem right? Too many options and too many people to follow up with! But if you are going to maintain professional relationships and personal interactions with people, you should at least reply with simple “got your message, will get back soon” SOMETHING to let the sender know you received their message. You will separate yourself SO MUCH from others with this because most people just don’t.

3 - Do what you say you will do

Sounds amazing doesn’t it? Before you say you are going to do something, make sure that you can indeed do it. Then follow up and get it done. This one has gotten people promotions and raises galore. Why? Because follow up and project completion are rarities among most business professionals and personal friends. These “non doers” probably either take on too much in the first place or don’t have the discipline or memory capacity to complete a project after it has left their immediate visual range.

No matter how you slice it, these little things, most people are either incapable of doing (and I don’t buy that for a second) or don’t place a high level of importance on doing. So YOU, if you do them, have the advantage…in my book at least.
