A Victory For the Animals
A Victory For the Animals
Do you feel different? I feel…relieved from all of the bombardment. The television, radio and internet seem to have supplied an endless source of political rhetoric. I have received countless emails from friends and relatives advising and reminding me how to vote on all of the various propositions. Confusing and overwhelming to say the least.
One victory I’m especially happy about…is Proposition 2, concerning the treatment of farm animals. Corporate farming has perpetuated and espoused the systematic torture of animals brought into this world to serve only our purpose. The least we can do is provide them with a decent and humane existence during their brief stay on this earth. Mistreating a sentient creature degrades us as a nation and as a people, and we’ve been down pretty low, for a while now.
I do wonder if farmers will just move their livestock out of California, now. Other states have not yet passed the law, and some still allow the unethical treatment of farm animals. So, our meals may end up costing us more in transportation time and fossil fuels, than this measure will benefit us.
I hope that is not the case, and that we prove, as a state and a country, that we do see things clearly. I am optimistic and my heart is lighter, today.
